Nearly every online search starts on Google, right?

If we can agree on that premise, then it is nothing short of amazing to find out TikTok surpassed Google to become the most visited web domain of 2021.

It seems the writing was on the wall all along as TikTok was the most-downloaded app in 2020 and was shown to be the fastest-growing social media platform of all time.

It now has more than 1 billion active monthly users and was able to achieve that milestone much earlier than some of the other social media giants.

For comparison, it took Instagram 8 years to hit 1 billion active monthly users – TikTok got there in just 5.

TikTok’s climb to number 1 is even more impressive when you factor in how other platforms, namely Instagram, have continued to mimic their features along the way.

As the audience for TikTok has grown, it has also followed the steps of other social networks in starting with a younger core demographic and evolving into a platform that sees older demographics subsequently migrate to the platform creating a more attractive audience for businesses to market to with ad dollars.

Now we will see just how much the monetization factor will change the platform as was the case with the social networks that came before it.
